Myesha Broaden led four San Jose State players in double-figure scoring, and the Spartans took another big step in its breakthrough season with a 67-62 victory over New Mexico State on Thursday night.
The Spartans (7-10, 2-0 Western Athletic Conference) have won four in a row, their longest winnings streak since they won six straight during the 2005-06 season. SJSU has seven victories overall for the first time in five seasons.
"The team is playing with a lot of confidence," first-year SJSU coach Tim La Kose said. "We are playing well together and we are getting more production from more players which makes us a better team overall."
Sara Palvljanin added 16 points, Ta'Rea Cunnigan had 13 and Myesha Broaden chipped in 12 for SJSU.
Cal 71, Washington 47: The Bears won their fifth in a row behind Talia Caldwell's career-high 18 points.
The Bears (14-5, 5-2 Pacific-12 Conference), who were swept during the regular season last year by Washington (10-6, 2-4 Pac-12), remain in third place in the Pac-12 standings.
Gonzaga 81, Santa Clara 68: The host Bulldogs made 10 3-pointers and led 40-39 at halftime, but couldn't hold off the Bulldogs in the second half.
Santa Clara (8-10; 1-4 West Coast Conference) was led by Alyssa Shoji's 17 points and five 3s. Archbishop Mitty product Lindsay Leo provided 14 points and nine rebounds for the Broncos.
Gonzaga
(16-3; 5-1 WCC), ranked No. 25 in the latest ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, was led by 32 points from All-WCC forward Katelan Redmon.Men
New Mexico State 79, San Jose State 63: The Spartans committed 12 of their 13 turnovers for the game in the first half and struggled matching up with the Aggies' inside game in dropping their fourth straight.
SJSU (6-12, 0-4 WAC) was out-rebounded 41-29 and was just 6-of-29 from 3-point range.
Forward Wendell McKines scored 24 points and center Hamidu Rahman added a season-high 20 as the Aggies (14-5, 4-0 WAC) won their sixth game in a row and moved into a first-place with Nevada.
Gonzaga 74, USF 63: Guy Landry Edi came off the bench to score 15 points and spark the Bulldogs past the Dons.
Edi, a junior college transfer, had 10 points in the first half, one more than his previous Gonzaga high, as the Bulldogs used a closing 10-1 flourish to build a 41-32 halftime lead.
Three starters reached double figures for Gonzaga (15-3, 5-1 West Coast). Angelo Caloiaro had 14 points and nine rebounds and was the only player to score in double figures for USF (12-9, 2-5), which hasn't won a game at Gonzaga since Feb. 10, 1989.
Duke 91, Wake Forest 73: Andre Dawkins scored all 21 of his points in the first half, and No. 4 Duke to its 45th straight victory at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Dawkins hit seven 3-pointers to help the Blue Devils (16-2, 4-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) build a huge lead that was never seriously threatened.
The Blue Devils moved within one victory of the school record for consecutive home victories and will match the mark if they beat Florida State on Saturday.
North Carolina 82, Virginia Tech 68: Harrison Barnes scored nine of his 27 points during a 19-0 second-half run and No. 8 North Carolina bounced back from a 33-point loss at Florida State. John Henson added 16 points, 16 rebounds and six blocks for the Tar Heels (16-3, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference).
Oregon State 87, UCLA 84: Jared Cunningham had 21 points and Devon Collier 20 as Oregon State pulled away in the second half to defeat UCLA. Angus Brandt added 13 points and five assists for the Beavers (12-7, 2-5 Pac-12), who ended a 13-game losing streak to the Bruins dating to 2005.
Oregon 65, USC 62: Garrett Sim scored 20 points and Oregon made five 3-pointers in the second half to hold off USC. Devoe Joseph added 16 points and Olu Ashaolu had 11 for the Ducks (14-5, 5-2 Pac-12), who have won three straight and are off to their best start since going 18-1 in 2006-07.
Colorado 69, Arizona State 54: Andre Roberson and Spencer Dinwiddie each scored 12 points, and Colorado (12-6, 4-2 Pac-12) won for the 10th time in 11 games at home this season.
Arizona 77, Utah 51: Kyle Fogg and Kevin Parrom each had 12 points to overcome the ejection of Solomon Hill. The Wildcats (12-6, 3-2 Pac-12) made 12 of 24 from 3-point range and buried the depleted Utes with a second-half flurry.
