LAS VEGAS â" The Las Vegas 51s fell behind early and never recovered Thursday night, losing to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 6-3.
The 51s tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double by Travis d'Arnaud.
From there, the Sky Sox took control. Colorado Springs broke the tie in the second inning with an RBI double by catcher Omir Santos. The Sky Sox added two more runs in the fifth inning when shortstop Brandon Wood connected on a two-RBI double. A sacrifice fly in the sixth inning by Colorado Springs second baseman Hernan Iribarren made the score 5-1.
The 51s cut into the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when Kevin Howard hit a two-RBI double to make the score 5-3, but the Colorado Springs relievers held the 51s scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Sky Sox starter Carlos Torres picked up the win. Closer Zach Putnam earned his 10th save of the season. Las Vegas starter Andrew Carpenter suffered the loss.
