Double Murder Suspect Had Violent Past - KLAS-TV

LAS VEGAS -- Double murder suspect Bryan Clay had a history of violence long before he was charged with the rapes and murders of a mother and daughter. His ex-girlfriend filed abuse reports against Clay, who appeared in court today on those charges.

Sixteen-year-old Erin Frost's family says they want him to go away forever, and Frost's mother couldn't agree more.

"He kicked her, he had her in the street, from what I understand, and he banged her head into the concrete, and he kept stomping her in her belly," said Frost's mother Africa Releford.

Frost was three months pregnant with his child when the first incident happened. Her mother says there was another incident at Clay's parents' home in February.

"He kind of beat her up in his bedroom, door shut, the mom comes in and tells him, 'You need to stop hitting that girl here in this house. I don't care what you do outside of my home, just not in my home,'" she said.

Releford filed two police reports, but believes police waited too long to follow-up on them.

"I feel like if they had just pursued that, that we could've saved a life," she said.

On April 15, 2012, police say Clay broke in to Arturo Martinez's house. He allegedly beat Arturo with a hammer, and then raped and killed his wife Yadira and his 10-year-old daughter Karla. Martinez survived the attack and is recovering at University Medical Center.

"Is the right guy in jail? You bet. You bet. Now it's our job to ensure he never gets out," said Metro Homicide Lt. Ray Steiber.

Releford doesn't think he should get that much.

"An innocent man is in the hospital in a coma, and a child and a mom is no longer here with us. Two boys don't have their parents. For me, for life incarcerated is too nice," she said.

Bryan Clay returns to court for an arraignment for the alleged murders and sexual assaults of Yadira and Karla Martinez on Wednesday.
