The 2012 Mountain West schedule has been released and Air Force has seven national games while Colorado State has only one
May 3, 2012 - The 2012 Mountain West football television schedule has been released, and it is not pretty compared to what has been broadcast in the past. With the Mtn. no longer in existence the days of seeing nearly every game on television is over.
The Mountain West did say that CBS Sports could sell out games to other parties and that party happened to be ESPN, the same network the Mountain West spurned when they created the Mtn. back in 2006.
There are only four additional games the ESPN family of networks chose to pick up and they are games between the Washington St. Cougars at the UNLV Rebels on Friday Sept. 14, the BYU Cougars at Boise St. Broncos on Thursday Sept. 20, Hawaii Warriors at Air Force Falcons on Friday Nov. 16 and then a Dec. 1 tilt where Boise State will travel to face the Nevada Wolfpack.
Currently there are 25 Mountain West games broadcast compared to about 60 which has been the norm in the past with the Mtn. was showing games.
To no surprise Boise State is the big winner with 10 games being shown with the game at New Mexico not being broadcast and the other possible game is against the Southern Miss. Golden Eagles which could either be on Fox Sports or CBS Sports Network since Conference USA also has a deal with that network.
The big losers are the New Mexico Lobos who have zero games on the schedule and then the Colorado St. Rams and Wyoming Cowboys who each have only one game shown. The opponent that both Wyoming and Colorado State will face is Boise State which is why they are on television.
Air Force has seven games on national television at this time which include a 9:30 a.m. MT kickoff on over the air CBS against the Navy Midshipmen.
As for games that have not been slated for a national television audience there is still a possibility that they get shown on some level, but that is still a work in progress:
"This is the first phase of plans for the 2012-13 academic year," said Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson. "We are working with CBS Sports Network and member institutions to map out regional and local plans for the remaining 2012 football inventory. We anticipate announcing additional telecasts from these efforts in the coming weeks."
