UW football: Nevada coach gives blessing to Buh's move to Badgers - Madison.com

Despite a late push from Nevada football coach Chris Ault to stay at his alma mater, Andy Buh decided it was in his professional interests to take the University of Wisconsin linebackers coaching job.

Buh, whose unit showed marked improvement during his two years as the defensive coordinator for the Wolf Pack, will start his new job after the Feb. 1 national signing day for high school recruits, according to an article on the website of the Reno Gazette-Journal.

UW has yet to make the hire official.

While the 38-year-old Buh will take a step backwards in terms of his title, he is likely to earn a raise. According to USA Today's database of coaches' salaries, Buh made $174,002 last season, while Wisconsin's Dave Huxtable made $190,000 and also received a $58,500 bonus.

Huxtable spent one year as the Badgers' linebackers coach before following Paul Chryst to Pitt to serve as defensive coordinator.

"Let me tell you this about Andy Buh," Ault, who had long discussions with Buh about the possibility of eventually succeeding him at Nevada, told the Gazette-Journal.

"He's not going to Wisconsin for the money. He's going there for professional advancement. He's a young guy. I don't like when I lose coaches, but Andy left with my blessing."

Buh, who has also coached at Stanford (where he served as co-defensive coordinator), San Diego State and Fresno State, received consideration for Washington State's defensive coordinator vacancy last month, the newspaper reported.

A two-year starter at linebacker for Nevada in the mid-1990s after transferring from a junior college, Buh also coached that position each of his three years on Nevada's staff.
