Nev. company looking to bring alumni football to area - Ledger Independent

A Nevada company is planning to bring high school alumni football games to the Maysville area.

Gridiron Alumni staged full-contact, full-pad alumni games in Georgia and Louisiana last year, and founder Chris Hall is looking to expand that concept to Kentucky. He said Sunday by email a few players from the area signed up last year, "but not enough to get a game going."

Now the company is looking to get games set up in March or April here, but first alumni from Mason County, Fleming County, Lewis County, Bracken County or Manchester would need to sign up. Roster spots, Hall said, are guaranteed to the first 40 players to sign up from a school, and home field advantage is promised to the first school to register 30 players.

"Our preference is to get rival teams against each other," Hall said. "It means more to the players and the fans. We usually try to include all of the area teams, but it's hard to say which ones will develop and which ones don't. In rare cases, we would have two local teams who are not rivals play each other just to get the tradition going."

Player fees are $79 apiece at registration and $99 apiece the week of the game, with that money going to help pay for equipment, referees and stadium insurance and rental. Alumni can register at gridironalumni.com. For more information, contact Hall at 530-410-6396. -- LI
