Bartoch and Hortness make repeat appearances more Rebels named to the Honorable Mention team

LAS VEGAS - Three former UNLV swimmers will be representing their countries beginning this weekend when the swimming portion of the 2012 London Olympics begins on Saturday.

Joe Bartoch, a 2006 UNLV graduate, will swim in his second straight Olympic Games for the Canadian squad, while he will be joined by Richard Hortness, also a two-time Olympian after swimming in the Beijing Games. The third swimmer is Zsuzsanna Jakabos from Hungary, who swam for the Rebels in the 2008-09 season. All three are former Mountain West Swimmers of the Year for UNLV (Bartoch in 2006, Hortness in 2008, Jakabos in 2009).

Jakabos comes in with the best medal hopes of the three, as she is seeded seventh in the 200m Fly, which will be swam on Tuesday, July 31, and holds the ninth fastest time in the 400 Individual Medley, to be held on Saturday, July 28. She will also swim on two relays for Hungary, the 4x100m Free relay (July 28) and the 4x100m Medley Relay (Aug. 3). Jakabos previously swam in both the 2004 and 2008 Olympics for Hungary.

Bartoch, the last of the three to begin his Olympic participation, will compete in the 100m Fly on Thursday, Aug. 2, in where he is seeded 31st, and will also swim the fly leg on the 4x100m Medley relay for Canada on Aug. 3. Hortness is also swimming on a relay, Canada's 4x100m Free relay that will compete on Sunday, July 29.
