Las Vegas 5 Tucson 4 - Thursday

WP: Richmond (5-3)
LP: Hynes (1-6)
S: Beck (9)
Time: 2:48
Attn: 3,516

The Las Vegas 51s turned a triple play in the fourth inning of their 5-4 win over the Tucson Padres Thursday. With runners at first and third and the Las Vegas corner infielders expecting a bunt, Daniel Robertson chopped a ball to third baseman Chris Woodward, who stepped on third for the first out, then threw to second baseman Jonathan Diaz for the second out and Diaz completed the triple play with an accurate throw to first baseman Yan Gomes.

The Padres scored first in the game on a Beamer Weems RBI single in the second inning. Las Vegas tied the game in the fifth on the second home run of the series for Gomes. The 51s added four more in the sixth against Colt Hynes to take a 5-1 lead. Another two-out hit, a three-run home run by Cody Decker, got the Padres within one run in the sixth, but that was as close as Tucson would get. The Padres left on two in the seventh, two in the eighth and one runner in the ninth in the 5-4 loss.

Daniel Robertson and Blake Tekotte had two hits each for the T-Pads. Tucson starting pitcher Colt Hynes pitched six innings, allowing five runs on eleven hits. The triple play was the first ever in a Tucson Padres game, and the second turned by Las Vegas in their 30 year franchise history. The other came in 1989 in a game against Colorado Springs.
