Another miracle on ice
"It's a goal!" rang out and set up a roar from the full house of almost 7,000 fans!
They jumped up, cheered, clapped and felt wonderful.
On May 23, in one splendid, heart-stopping moment, Brandon MacLean caught a great pass from Matt Beca and put it in the Las Vegas Wranglers' net. Just like that, with an overtime goal (again), the Everblades won 3-2, and were the 2011-12 Kelly Cup champions!
They had tried before, but didn't quite make it. This year was different. The fans believed. We believed they could do it this time, and they did! Not only did they win the large, silver Kelly Cup with that outstanding overtime goal, but they proved to themselves and the world that they could do what they so much wanted to do! The players became a unified team, on a mission to earn the cup.
The MVP, goalie John Muse, deserves a lot of the credit; he stopped 41 shots on goal that night, helping his teammates pull off the win.
It was a wonderful moment in time â" like 1980 when USA's Olympic hockey team beat the Russian team.
The team felt it; the fans felt it; and so did the coaches, owners, and the people in the Everblades organization â" last 14 years of disappointment just melted away. The Everblades are winners! They deserve the continued support of those many happy fans in Germain Arena during the playoff games.
Three huge cheers for the Barron Collier High School Drum Line that brought so much fun, energy and sound to the playoff games! They gave of their time and their talent, and they helped energize the crowd and the team!
Congratulations, Everblades! We look forward to seeing you on the ice again next year.
