TUCSON, Ari. - The Las Vegas 51s came up short against the Tucson Padres Tuesday night in a wild game that featured numerous home runs and little defense. Las Vegas lost 11-10.
The 51s had a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the second inning, until Tucson outfielder Anthony Contreres connected on a three-run home run.
Las Vegas responded in the third and fourth innings with solo home runs by Danny Perales and Travis d'Arnaud to give Las Vegas a 5-4 lead.
Both teams exploded in the sixth inning. Las Vegas added five runs in the top of the inning, including a grand slam by Yan Gomes.
The Padres tied the game with six runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning, including a three-run home run by designated hitter Matt Clark and a solo home run by catcher Yasmani Grandal.
Tucson broke the 10-10 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning on a solo home run by second baseman Jedd Gyorko.
Padres reliever Cody Burns earned the win. 51s reliever Bobby Korecky suffered his first loss of the season.
