LAS VEGAS -- It has been more than a week since a mother and her 10-year-old daughter were found brutally beaten to death in their homes. Police have made no arrests, and remain tight-lipped about the investigation.
A memorial is growing at the home where the bodies were found. Friends and family have been gathering every evening since last Friday to recite a rosary, and will continue for the next few days.
According to police, a 9-year-old boy went to school last Monday and said his mother and sister were dead. When officers went to the home, they found Yadira Martinez and her daughter Karla dead inside. Yadira's husband Arturo Martinez was found badly beaten. Another child was found unharmed.
Police: 10-Year-Old Murder Victim was Raped
Inside the boxing school Arturo Martinez ran, the lights remain dark. The landlord of the property says police came and asked him to unlock the doors. He was asked to remain outside while they looked through the building.
The landlord says they were there for a few hours and removed the money and a computer. They also asked him to not let anyone on property until further notice. Thick, silver chains and several padlocks are now in place.
Outside the home where the attacks happened, police and security guards are present, making sure nobody crosses the crime tape that still remains.
The Martinez's were very active in their parish at St. Christopher Catholic Church in North Las Vegas. Reverend Alberto Alzate is the godfather of the boy who told a counselor his mom and sister were dead at his house.
St. Christopher and other parishes are offering bereavement ministry to members of their church to help them deal with the murders.
Arturo Martinez remains in the hospital, recovering from wounds to the head.
Friends say funeral services are still pending and will either be held in Las Vegas or out of state, possibly California.
Metro is asking the public to please be patient as they try and find out who killed this mother and daughter.
