Xavier Stephens, the 6-foot, 220-pound running back/linebacker from Tulare (Calif.) Union High who had apparently given a verbal commitment to UNLV, has committed to Nevada.
The Visalia Times-Delta is reporting Stephens has given a verbal commitment to the Wolf Pack and is expected to play running back.
A message left with Stephens was not immediately returned.
Tulare Union is the same school that produced the Green brothers, former Pack tight end Virgil and current linebacker Jeremiah.
In December, the Times-Delta reported that Stephens had given a verbal to Nevada, but a few days later changed that to UNLV.
Stephens' coach believes he can play four different positions at the next level.
"Of all the schools recruiting him, I don't think none of them feel that he is only capable of playing one position. He could be a tailback, an H-back, an outside linebacker, a middle linebacker," Darren Bennett told the Times-Delta. "He could line up anywhere and be successful, and that's a testament to how hard he's worked."
Stephens received some interest from a handful of Pac-12 schools, according to Scout.com. None of the recruiting websites indicate he has any other offers.
A verbal commitment is not binding. The signing period begins Feb. 1.
