Series Record vs. UNLV:Â TCU leads, 15-2
Last Meeting vs. UNLV: Feb. 9, 2011 (W, 71-64)
FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU will continue conference play at home Wednesday night against UNLV at 6:30 p.m. CT from Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The Horned Frogs will be going for their fifth-straight victory over the Lady Rebels and have never lost to UNLV at home. Overall, TCU hasn't lost to the Rebels during regular-season play since falling in Las Vegas in 2006.Â
The Opponent
UNLV comes into Wednesday's contest with a 13-5 overall record and a 1-1 mark in the Mountain West after falling in overtime to San Diego State in its last outing, 66-62. Against the Aztecs, four players scored in double-figures as Mia Bell led the way with 16 points, while Lenita Sanford added 14 points and 10 boards. Kelli Thompson has carried the Rebels so far this season with 12.5 points, while Sanford is also averaging double-figures in points with a 11.4 average, while also tallying 7.6 rebounds a contest.Â
The Series
TCU and UNLV will be meeting for the 18th time in program history Wednesday. The Horned Frogs own a 15-2 advantage in the series and haven't lost to the Rebels since 2009. Overall, TCU, who has won four-straight and 11 out of the last 12 in the series, went 2-0 against UNLV last season, claiming a 68-60 decision in Fort Worth before battling to a 71-64 victory away from Daniel-Meyer Coliseum last February.
Dropping It In From Deep
TCU connected on 12 three's against Colorado State, marking the third-straight season in which the Horned Frogs have done so against an opponent. In all, TCU has now made 12 triples in a single-game against the Rams three times since 2007. The Frogs' 12 three-pointers against the Rams is tied for No. 5 all-time in program history for three-point field goals made in a single-game. The 12 triples were also the most since TCU connected on 12-made three's last season against Oral Roberts and ties the DMC record for most three-pointers made in a single-game.
Horned Frogs Golden When Getting To 50 Percent
TCU shot 50 percent against Colorado State, marking the 13th time since 2008-09 the Frogs have accomplished that feat. In all, the Horned Frogs have been automatic the last three seasons when shooting 50 percent, going a perfect 11-0. When TCU shoots 45 percent or higher in a single-game, the Purple and White have gone 17-1 since 2008-09, with their only loss coming during the 2008-09 season.

Horned Frogs Solid After A Loss In Mountain West Play
TCU is now 19-3 all-time in Mountain West games following a conference loss. The only losses during that stretch came last season against Air Force and in 2007 against Wyoming and New Mexico, respectively. Overall, TCU has only lost two-straight MW regular-season games only three times since 2005-06.Â
Getting To Intermission On Top A Key
In 17 games, TCU has shown that if it can get to the halftime break with a lead then ultimately the Horned Frogs will come away with a victory, going 7-1 this season when leading at the break. The only loss came at the hands of Hartford when the Purple and White led by three at the break. When TCU hasn't led at intermission, the Frogs are 1-8 overall, with its only win coming after trailing by eight to Sam Houston State earlier this year.
Ventress Starting To Heat Up
Freshman Natalie Ventress has led TCU in scoring six out of the last eight games, including a 20-point showing against Colorado State. So far this season, the freshman has led the Frogs in scoring eight times, becoming the first Horned Frog freshman to lead the Purple and White in scoring in eight games since former Horned Frog and current professional Helena Sverrisdottir carried TCU in eight games during the 2007-08 season.
Holding Their Own
TCU held Colorado State without a three-pointer in the second half, marking the fourth time in five home games in which the Frogs have held an opponent without a three in a single-half. The Frogs are now 4-1 this season when accomplishing that feat, having done so at Houston earlier this year as well. In the past two seasons, TCU has now held eight different opponents to no triples during a half of play, with its only losses in that stretch coming to West Virginia and Harvard.Â
Wynn Stepping Up Her Play
Sophomore Briesha Wynn has been making her presence known on the offensive end of the court since the beginning of December. The sophomore has scored in double-figures in five of the Horned Frogs' last 11 games, including four out of the last nine. During the past two years, the Horned Frogs have been almost automatic in the win column when Wynn scores double-digit points, going a combined 8-2, with its only losses coming to Texas A&M and UTPA when she scored a career-high 14 points in both contests.
Iron Unkind From Three-Point Land
Heading into Wednesday's game against UNLV, the Frogs have held six different opponents to less than 20 percent shooting from behind the arc, including Texas Southern who shot 12.5 percent and didn't make a single-three in the first half, going 0-for-6. In six of TCU's victories this winter, UTSA (10.3), Fordham (19.2), Houston (15.4), Sam Houston State (16.7), Tulsa (16.7) and TSU (12.5) have all shot under 20 percent from three. The Frogs are now 18-1 the last three seasons when holding the opposition to under 20 percent. TCU's only loss came last season against future conference opponent West Virginia when the Mountaineers shot 16.6 percent from three and won.
NCAA Stats Update
As the Frogs entered this week's games, TCU ranked in the top 50 in the nation in field-goal percentage defense (No. 12 - .334) and blocked shots per game (No. 9 - 6.2). Individually, sophomore Latricia Lovings currently sits No. 45 in the nation in blocks per game (2.1).
Last Time Out
TCU simply couldn't miss during stages of the game last Saturday, shooting a blistering 50 percent from the field en route to a 79-71 victory over Colorado State at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
The Horned Frogs, now 8-9 on the year and 1-1 in conference play, caught fire early on, cashing in from all over the court, which helped the Frogs jump all over the Rams early, cruising to a 15-0 lead from the opening tip. When it was all said-and-done, TCU never trailed in the game, thanks in large part to some streaky shooting and all-out hustle that helped the Purple and White record a 33-29 advantage in rebounds. Â
The Frogs simply could not be stopped from behind the arc during the first half, ripping the nets for a season-high 58.3 percent on 7-of-12 shooting in the opening frame. During the first half alone, TCU, who led by as many as 18, shot 56.7 percent from the field. In all, the Purple and White connected on a season-high 12 three-pointers, which totaled 48 percent for the game.
Antoinette Thompson did most of the damage from deep, going 3-of-4 from three-point land en route to a 20-point outing on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor. Freshman Natalie Ventress was just as dangerous, scoring 20 points on 6-of-14 shooting, including 3-of-6 from behind the arc. Junior Whitney Williams rounded out the top-performers for the Frogs with a new career-high of 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field.
Moving Up The Charts
Going into Wednesday's game against UNLV, sophomore Latricia Lovings sits in the top 10 all-time in program history in blocked shots. Lovings, who currently sits No. 7 all-time in school history, already has 57 blocks in her young career, which is quite impressive considering that she has only played in a total of 39 games. With three more blocks, the sophomore will move into a tie with Micah Garoutte (2007-2011) for No. 6 all-time in blocked shots.
Up Next
TCU will hit the road to take on Boise State on Saturday, Jan. 21. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. CT. Â
