Cats glance: Las Vegas edges Cats on Thames home run - Sacramento Bee

Highlight: Dan Straily allowed one hit and struck out 13 over seven innings, but that one hit was a homer by Eric Thames, and the Las Vegas 51s edged the River Cats 1-0 Friday night at Raley Field.

Tops in K's: Straily leads professional baseball in strikeouts with 154. Seattle's Felix Hernandez, Detroit's Justin Verlander and Washington's Stephen Strasburg are second with 128.

Streak snapped: The River Cats' Eric Sogard had his 11-game hitting streak stopped.

Lead dwindling: With the win, the 51s have cut the gap to 21/2 games behind the league-leading River Cats in the Pacific South Division.

Ray of light: The A's signed 30-year-old closer Chris Ray and assigned him to the River Cats. Ray was released by Cleveland after posting a 2-4 record with a 2.75 ERA and 11 saves at Triple-A Columbus. In 2006 with Baltimore, he had 33 saves with a 2.73 ERA, but had his career derailed by Tommy John elbow surgery in 2007.

Today: River Cats RHP Bruce Billings (4-3, 3.56 ERA) vs. Las Vegas 51s RHP Joel Carreno (2-4, 9.73), 7:05 p.m., Raley Field.
