More than 9,000 people came to watch the Las Vegas 51s take on Reno Aces at Cashman Field July 3, 2009. The night ended with a Las Vegas win and a fireworks display.

The Las Vegas 51s will be hosting a Fourth of July baseball game at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, playing on Independence Day for just the second time in the franchise’s 30-year history when they take on the Tucson Padres at Cashman Field.
The holiday fireworks night is typically one of the best-attended games each summer for the Triple-A franchise. Several families have the tradition of watching the display in the parking lot following the game.
The 16-team Pacific Coast League schedule allows for each team to receive a home game around the holiday, ending one series July 3 and beginning the next the following day to accommodate holiday promotions. In 1986, the attendance was 11,598 at Cashman Field for the franchise’s lone Independence Day game.
This year, they are doing things a little different.
In the Cashman Center Convention Hall, there will be a carnival from 3 to 6 p.m. with games, food and live music. Entry to the carnival is free with a ticket to the game. All tickets are priced at $14.
The five-game series with the Padres continues Thursday with the team’s popular Dollar Beer Night promotion. Friday, patriotic-themed shirts will be given to the first 2,500 fans.
The 51s (47-36) are 4.5 games out of first place in the PCL’s Southern Division behind the Sacramento RiverCats.
