Redbirds on the road: Matt Adams' 5 RBIs too much for 51s - Memphis Commercial Appeal

Late Friday

Redbirds 9, 51s 6

LAS VEGAS -- Behind two home runs and five RBIs from Matt Adams, the Redbirds defeated the Las Vegas 51s, 9-6, on Friday night to earn their first three-game winning streak of the season.

Adams' fourth-inning grand slam off Robert Coello (2-1) gave the 'Birds a 7-4 lead, one they would not relinquish. Cedric Hunter added a solo homer for the 'Birds in the sixth inning. The two teams combined for seven home runs, including two from Las Vegas catcher Travis d'Arnoud.

In winning the first two games of the series, Memphis has pounded out 29 hits, including 16 extra-base hits. For the second night in a row, Zach Cox had a pair of doubles, giving him a team-best 13.

Starter Brian Broderick (2-5) gave up four solo homers in five innings for the Redbirds. Chuckie Fick pitched a perfect ninth for his second save of the season.

Jamie Romak, acquired from Kansas City on Thursday, had a single, double and a walk in his Memphis debut.
