ECHL Western Conference semifinals moves to Boise

Scott Campbell redirected a Chris Francis pass past Jerry Kuhn just 91 seconds into overtime Tuesday night as the Las Vegas Wranglers defeated the Idaho Steelheads, 3-2, in Game 2 of the best-of-seven ECHL Western Conference semifinals.

The Wranglers lead the series, two games to none, with Game 3 coming back to Boise's CenturyLink Arena on Thursday.

Goalie Jerry Kuhn, once again, was great in net for Idaho, stopping 42 of 45 shots. O'Keefe gets the win, stopping 28 of 30. Neither team scored on the power play, Idaho going 0-3 and Las Vegas going 0-5.

Boise State's Tara Glover named MW Player of the Week

The Broncos embark on their first Mountain West road trip Friday through Sunday, at Colorado State. Boise State started conference play by sweeping UNLV last weekend at home. The Broncos are tied with San Diego State atop the conference standings at 3-0. The Aztecs swept CSU in San Diego.

Sophomore centerfielder Tara Glover was named MW Player of the Week after going 7-for-10 with two home runs and two doubles against the Rebels.

Boise State gymnast Amy Glass looking to make history

The NCAA released the official announcement Monday (April 9) that Boise State gymnast Amy Glass will advance on to the 2012 NCAA National Championships as an all-around competitor. Although Glass knew she was a qualifier after finishing as the top all-around competitor (not on an advancing team) at the NCAA Regional this past weekend, her qualification and rotation order were officially announced Monday.

The redshirt senior enters the NCAA Championships in a tie for the best individual (not on a qualifying team) qualifying all-around score of 39.450. She ties with Alina Weinstein of Illinois and Sharaya Musser of Penn State.

Glass, a Vacaville, Calif., native, learned that she will compete in the all-around on Friday, April 20 in the second session of competition beginning at 4 p.m. MT. She will rotate with the 2011 NCAA National Champion, Alabama. They will begin their six-rotation journey on the balance beam, followed by a bye, then floor exercise and vault, a second bye and finishing on the uneven bars.

The championships, hosted by the Gwinnett Center and Georgia Institute of Technology, will be held at the Arena Gwinnett Center, April 20-22.

The women’s gymnastics championships consist of 12 teams and 12 all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and individual event specialists. The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors from each of the six regionals have advanced to the national championships.

In addition the event winners at each regional also advance to the national championships (in their specific event) if they were not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.

The process for determining rotation pairings for Day 1 of the team competition at the site of the finals is based on a National Qualifying Score (NQS) calculated by adding the Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) to the score achieved at regional competition.

Once the NQS is calculated, teams are ranked based on the NQS from 1 to 12. Teams 1, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 12 were placed in Group A; and teams 2, 3, 6, 7, 10 and 11 placed in Group B. The host team and its corresponding group will compete in the second semifinal. If there is not a host institution competing, a random draw will be used to determine which group is placed in semifinal one or two.

Team semifinal and all-around competition will be conducted in two sessions Friday, April 20 at noon and 6 p.m. ET. The top three teams from each semifinal will advance to the Super Six competition Saturday, April 21 at 4 p.m. ET. The top four individuals in each event (plus ties) from Friday’s semifinals will compete in the individual-event competition Sunday, April 22 at 1 p.m. ET.
