Denmark bans players from tweeting in Euro 12 - KLAS-TV

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) - The Danish soccer federation says its players aren't allowed to send updates on their private social media during the European Championship in June.

Denmark goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen has called it "a shame" that players can not tell fans what they do "without revealing tactics."

DBU spokesman Lars Behrendt said on Tuesday coach Morten Olsen wants players to focus on the tournament and "the 24-7 open microphone" to be shut down.

Behrendt said the squad will send numerous updates to fans via the team's own social media sites beside the regular news conferences.

Sports Minister Uffe Elbaek said it was the DBU's decision, but said his first thought was "a violation of the freedom of speech."
