COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado â" The Las Vegas 51s dropped both games of a double header Monday against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. With the losses, the 51s' record falls to 3-9 for the season.
Starting pitchers Jesse Sanchez and Christian Friedrich dueled in the first game, giving up a combined three runs on eight hits.
Las Vegas took the lead in the first inning with an RBI single by Travis Snider which brought home Anthony Gose. Colorado Springs tied the game in the third inning on a sacrifice single by DJ LeMahieu.
The score remained tied until the bottom of the seventh inning, when Andrew Brown hit a walk-off home run off Chavez to secure the win. Friedrich improved to 2-1 on the season. Chavez fell to 1-1.
The Sky Sox scored first in the second game of the double header on a sacrifice fly by Matt McBride in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Colorado Springs extended its lead in the bottom of the fourth inning â" scoring two runs on an RBI double by Andrew Brown and an RBI single by McBride.
Las Vegas responded with a sacrifice fly by Chris Woodward in the fifth inning and a sacrifice single by Danny Perales in the sixth inning.
The 51s were unable, however, to complete the comeback when Zach Putnam shut the door in the top of the seventh inning, earning his second save of the season and giving the 3-2 victory to the Sky Sox.
Aaron Laffey lost his second game of the season for the 51s. Reliever Dustin Molleken was credited with the win.
