FOX5 Vegas - KVVUUNLV football expands 2012 season by one game - KVVU Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas football team expanded its 2012 season by one game, adding a home tilt against Northern Arizona, the school announced Wednesday.

The school's athletic department said it scheduled the 13th regular season game because the Rebels had to play an away game against Mountain West Conference opponent Hawaii.

This move repeats a similar move in the 2010 season when the Rebels played at Hawaii, who was, at the time, a member of the Western Athletic Conference.

The game against Northern Arizona on Sept. 8 is scheduled to be the second game of the Rebels' season. UNLV opens the season at Sam Boyd Stadium on Sept. 1 against University of Minnesota.

The school said it will play conference opponents University of Nevada, Reno, Air Force, Wyoming and New Mexico at home and Boise State, Colorado State, Hawaii and San Diego State on the road. The dates for these games will be released in March.

The following is UNLV football's non-conference schedule for 2012:

  • Minnesota, Sept. 1;
  • Northern Arizona, Sept. 8;
  • Washington State, Sept. 15;
  • At Utah State, Sept. 29;
  • At Louisiana Tech, Oct. 6.
