Reflections on Everblades' championship season - The News-Press

“I’m hoarse now.” â€" 75 year old Lehigh Acres resident Charles Dunigan, who was among the sellout crowd of 7,290 at Germain Arena who celebrated the historic victory.

“It was a lucky bounce over one of their guys.” â€" Brandon MacLean, who scored the championship-winning goal in overtime to give the Everblades the Kelly Cup.

“He was unbelievable. That’s what you need to win a championship.” â€" Las Vegas Wranglers coach Ryan Mougenel on the performance of Everblades goalie John Muse. The rookie made 39 saves in Game 5.

“Not one guy can win a game for us. Different guys were stepping up at different times. This is just unbelievable for us.” â€" Everblades goalie John Muse on the team effort it took to win the title.

“And I was numb for five minutes.’’ â€" Craig Brush, owner of the Everblades, talking about his reaction after he “went numb” when the game-winning goal was scored.

“Vegas is a really good team. If we hadn’t won tonight, I don’t know if we would’ve won the series because we had to go back there with one day of rest.” â€" Everblades coach Greg Poss talking about what is team would have been up against had the not finished off the Wranglers at home.

“I told them to smoke one for me.” - David Fischer, Everblades defenseman to teammates who smoked cigars in the locker room after winning the Kelly Cup. Fischer had to leave the team to be with his ailing mother.

“The strength of our team is our leaders. It’s not just the guys wearing the letter. Some of our guys weren’t overly vocal but when they talked, everyone listened.” - Matt Marquardt, Everblades forward who had six goals, 12 assists in playoffs.

“There’s so much joy right after, there in the corner. Everyone was jumping and screaming. It’s one of those things you dream about in overtime.” - Matt Beca, made Kelly-Cup-winning pass to MacLean in overtime.
