In their last regulation game of the season, The UNLV Running Rebels pulled off an incredible come from behind win against the Oregon State Beavers at Oregon State University on Saturday.  The loss against the Rebels broke the Beavers’ 7 game winning streak.  No one could have anticipated this Rebels victory during the first half of the game.  The Beavers came out strong and dominated the offense with a goal just seconds into the game by Reed Oliver.  The Beavers would sink four more in the first quarter while the Rebels were unable to put any in the cage.  During the second quarter the Rebel players Jordan Grant and Nick Peterson managed to match the 2 goals dished up by the Beavers, but the game remained lopsided going into the half with the Beavers leading  7-2.  After the half it looked like it would be more of the same with Reed Oliver and Matt Fetig scoring, upping the Beaver lead to 9-2.  With 9 minutes to play in the third Harrison Krueger of the Rebels scored his first goal of the game followed just seconds later with another Rebel goal for Nick Peterson.    Ryan Squires of the Beavers buried another shot, but it would be the last goal of the game for the Beavers.  The Rebels rallied and scored four more on shots from Brandon Edgel, Cody Root, Connor White and Harri Krueger before the break for the fourth quarter. The Beavers still had a two point lead as the fourth began but the momentum belonged to the Rebels.  Freshman middie Harrison Krueger put away his third goal to start the quarter.  The tying goal came from junior Steve Herman with just under six minutes to play.  This was anyone’s lacrosse game but it seems the Rebels of Las Vegas wanted it more with Nick Peterson scoring the go ahead goal and Cody Root adding the final point with 30 seconds to play.  Coach Darren Gagnon of the UNLV Running Rebels said, “ I am proud of my guys.  This was our third game in 48 hours.  We have a very small squad and often play teams with 2 or 3 times as many players as we have.  Today Harrison Krueger and Nick Peterson really stepped up.   Our entire team just turned it around and it was good to win our last game of the regular season. “

UNLV will face the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos in the first round of the SLC playoffs. Face off will be at 1pm on Saturday April 28.
