The Las Vegas Area Council Boy Scouts of America invites the community to learn about scouting during the 2012 Mega Scout Expo scheduled for this weekend at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs, 9200 Tule Springs Road.

The Scouts plan to camp out Friday night and then welcome visitors to a free community fair, with exhibits and fun from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

A climbing wall, archery, games and more are planned for all ages.

The Scouts also are set to earn merit badges and conduct demonstrations.

Commercial vendors are welcome at the event. No food sales are allowed.

TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION SEEKS INPUT FROM RESIDENTS

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is continuing to hold community outreach events and public hearings until May 17 to discuss the transit fare adjustments proposed by the Fare Working Group to address fiscal challenges.

A 60-day public comment period is in effect to obtain community input about the fare recommendations before any decisions are made. The recommendations include modifications to transit fares for the residential market, resort corridor and ADA Paratransit service.

The public is encouraged to attend upcoming public outreach sessions to learn more about the fare proposals. Sessions are set for 4 to 6 p.m. May 1 at Albertsons, 4850 W. Craig Road; 5 to 7 p.m. May 4 at Albertsons, 2575 S. Maryland Parkway; and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. May 9 at the Centennial Hills Transit Center, 7313 Grand Montecito Parkway.

In addition, the transportation commission plans to hold a public hearing on the proposals from 3 to 5 p.m. May 12 at the Bonneville Transit Center, 101 E. Bonneville Ave.

PARENTS NIGHT OUT TO INCLUDE PIZZA AND A MOVIE FOR KIDS

Parents Night Out, for kids 5 or older, is planned for 6-9 p.m. May 11 at the Centennial Hills Community Center YMCA, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive.

Children are to eat pizza, watch a movie and make a craft while parents enjoy an evening off. The fee is $15 for one child and $40 for a family.

SIGN-UPS UNDER WAY FOR DAY CAMPS AT CIMARRON ROSE COMMUNITY CENTER

Registration is open for summer day camps at the Cimarron Rose Community Center, 5591 N. Cimarron Road.

The program is open to kids ages 6-11 . The sessions are set for 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 11 through Aug. 24.

Children can look forward to a variety of age-appropriate activities, including field trips, sports, special events, physical fitness activities and games, arts, crafts and nutrition training, under the supervision of trained staff.

The cost is $75 per child for the week and $70 for additional children per week. For more information, call 229-1607.

HOSPICE TO HOST BUTTERFLY RELEASE SUNDAY AT BUCKSKIN BASIN PARK

The ninth annual John Anderson Celebration of Life Live Butterfly Release is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday at Buckskin Basin Park, 7530 Buckskin Basin Ave., at the corner of Gowan Road.

The Nathan Adelson Hospice Foundation will host the event, which allows those who have lost loved ones the opportunity to celebrate their memories and honor them.

SOLAR ECLIPSE TO BE TOPIC AT STAR PARTY EVENT SATURDAY

An Astronomy in the Park Star Party is planned for 6 p.m. Saturday at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area's group use area.

The evening is set to begin with views of the moon and Jupiter just after sunset, followed by deep-sky viewing of galaxies, nebulae and star clusters as the sky darkens. The presentation will be "Understanding Eclipses," as the club prepares to observe the annular solar eclipse May 20.

A laser-guided tour of the night sky is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
