Steelheads lose, fall into a 2-0 hole in series - The Idaho Statesman

The Las Vegas Wranglers defeated the Idaho Steelheads 3-2 in overtime late Tuesday night in Vegas’ Orleans Arena.

The win gives Las Vegas a two-game advantage as the best-of-seven ECHL Western Conference semifinal series shifts to Idaho.

Steelheads forward Joe Pereira sent the game to overtime with 1 minute, 52 seconds remaining in regulation. Jacob Cepis and Aaron Lewicki earned the assists on the goal.

Idaho kept the puck in Las Vegas’ zone during the first 85 seconds of overtime, but the Wranglers’ Scott Campbell scored his fourth goal of the playoffs 1 minute, 31 seconds into the extra period to seal the victory.

The series returns to Idaho for Game 3 at 7:10 p.m. Thursday at CenturyLink Arena. Idaho will also host Game 4 on Saturday night, and Game 5, if necessary, on Sunday.

Tuesday’s game was scoreless through the first period as Idaho goaltender Jerry Kuhn and Vegas netminder Mitch O’Keefe turned away everything that came their way.

Las Vegas broke through with a score about 4 minutes into the second period to take a 1-0 lead.

Idaho forward Cody Purves answered with his third goal of the playoffs to even the score at 1-1.

The Wranglers regained their one-goal lead before the period ended.

Kuhn stopped 42-of-45 shots. O'Keefe got the win, stopping 28-of-30. Neither team scored on the power play, as Idaho went 0-for-3 and Las Vegas went 0-for-5.
